The global community will tomorrow mark the World Press Freedom Day with the Media Council of Malawi (MCM) reaffirming its commitment to a free press.
According to a press statement released by the MCM, a free press is essential for a healthy democracy.
The media body has since called for promotion of ethical journalism, protecting journalists’ rights, supporting media literacy, and enhancing collaboration to address media challenges.
This year’s global theme is “Reporting in the Brave New World: The Impact of Artificial Intelligence on Press Freedom and the Media.
Malawi will mark the commemoration with a local theme: “Media for a well-informed electorate,” aligning with the upcoming elections.
