Michael Usi confronts public officers on work ethic

By Isaac Salima:

Vice-President Michael Usi Wednesday made a surprise visit to some government offices in Chikwawa District, where he confronted officials regarding their punctuality and work ethic.

Usi first visited Chikwawa District Council offices before proceeding to Chikwawa District Hospital.

At the hospital, Usi encountered a female nurse who had just arrived for work at 8am.

Usi asked her why she was arriving at work at that time when operations in public hospitals are supposed to begin at 7:30am.

“I have a two-year-old baby. My husband is at school. Authorities here are aware of my situation,” the nurse responded.

The vice president then urged the officers to always consider the welfare of patients by being committed to their jobs.

Usi then inquired about the Director of Health and Social Services and was informed that she had not yet reported for duty.

He requested her phone number and immediately called her. She arrived a few minutes later.

On the other hand, the vice president expressed satisfaction with the level of commitment shown by most public servants in the district who he noted reported to work punctually.

He specifically praised District Commissioner Nardin Kamba for being present during his visit.

Quality health activist Maziko Matemba has since commended Usi for the visit.

“The general public pays taxes and expects good service delivery in return. What is needed is a system to monitor the provision of required services to ensure ongoing improvement,” Matemba said.

Before visiting the offices, Usi also interacted with traders at Thabwa Trading Centre in Chikwawa.
