
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs says Malawi is ready to host this year’s Africa Day commemoration, focusing on justice for Africans and people of African descent through reparations on Saturday 1st June 2025.
Speaking to journalists in Lilongwe, Principal Secretary for Foreign Affairs Mwayiwawo Polepole said the event is a moment for Africans to reflect on their unity and showcase their culture.

In an interview with MIJ Online, Polepole said the commemoration set for Bingu National Stadium in Lilongwe will bring together Africans to celebrate their identity through food, dances, and other cultural displays.
He also confirmed the attendance of various diplomatic missions from across the continent.
Speaking to journalists earlier, Moroccan Ambassador to Malawi Abdelkader Naji and Mozambican High Commissioner Alexandre Herculano Manjate urged Africans to embrace unity as a foundation for economic and developmental progress.
Meanwhile, the National Bank of Malawi has donated K5.8 million towards the event and George Nyirenda, representing the bank, said the donation is part of their commitment to support national and cultural events.
