Kamangila wants trial in Blantyre

Lawyer Alexious Kamangila has applied to the High Court to have his matter against Judge Kenan Manda tried in Blantyre.

His lawyer, Gift Dick Chimowa, made the application before Judge Simeon Mdeza in Lilongwe on Monday.

Chimowa told The Daily Times that all the concerned parties were from Blantyre, hence the application.

“Indeed, today [Monday] we appeared before Judge Mdeza at the High Court Lilongwe Registry where we made an application to have the Judge Kenan Manda vs Alexius Kamangila case transferred to the High Court Principal Registry in Blantyre,” he said.

Chimowa said they saw it important to have the matter tried in Blantyre.

“This is because, in our view, all the parties reside in Blantyre and we see no reason to have the matter be tried in Lilongwe when the nearest court to all the parties is the High Court sitting in Blantyre.

“All in all, that is what I can safely comment on since the matter is in court. The judge has adjourned the matter on our application to a date to be set,” Chimowa said.

Meanwhile, Mdeza has ordered that all processes should continue.

This means the next stage is the mediation stage.

According to Chimowa, they would patiently wait for the court’s ruling.

“When it [the court] is ready, I am sure it will give parties directions as to whether it will proceed in Lilongwe before the same judge or in Blantyre before a different judge,” he said.

Manda feels that he was defamed by Kamangila, who recently took to social media to exposed alleged corruption in the Judiciary.

The matter came to light after Kamangila was posting statements on his social media platform, particularly Facebook, alleging that Manda’s decisions were questionable.
