Government has given Sawa Group Construction Company a one-month ultimatum to commence construction of the Dowa Dambo Irrigation Scheme, failing which they will terminate their contract.
This comes following dissatisfaction on the project after inspecting progress of the work during Ministry’s of Agriculture visit to the Sawa Construction and FISD sites in Dowa district.
Speaking to MIJ Online Benedicto Chambo Deputy Minister of Agriculture said that they have given the Sawa Group just one month to make progress failing which they will terminate their contract.
Meanwhile, Chambo has expressed satisfaction with the work by FISD Malawi Limited for completing nearly 90% of their work on the project.
On his part, Wycliffe Reuben Project In-Charge for Sawa Group Construction Company, attributed the delays to pending payments which have now been resolved.
Meanwhile Wezzie Chiumia Special Assistant to the Board of Directors at FISD has reaffirmed their commitment to provide sustainable irrigation for 400 hectares of farmland which will benefit 2208 farming households.
