DPP denies internal infighting

DPP denies internal infighting

The Democratic Progressive Party maintains that there are no divisions within its parliamentary ranks.

This follows claims by Blantyre City South East MP Sameer Suleman, who alleged that divisions within the opposition DPP had weakened its ability to advocate for policies benefiting Malawians in parliament.

Suleman said the current parliamentary session has not worked in the interest of Malawians, adding that some senior DPP members have close ties with government ministers, which has created issues of loyalty within the party.

Responding to the claims, DPP Chief Whip Jappie Mhango said Suleman’s statements were not accurate.

He noted that the party had supported Suleman’s proposal to reduce budget allocations to the state residence.

Mhango added that the DPP has been making efforts to hold the MCP-led government accountable, but its minority status in parliament has made it difficult to challenge certain national issues.
