Digitial innovations to improve public service provision

Provision of various public services is earning a massive turn around, thanks to a wide range of innovations that government is advancing.

Katema: We are making headways.

One of such is the Boma Lathu portal which encompasses easiness in accessing information, a development Paul Katema, Director of E-Government believes will improve service delivery of institutions.

Katema raised the profiles lately when he presented a paper at the e-Justice Conference in Lilongwe.

In terms of supporting infrastructure, he says Malawi has managed to lay 4,000 kilometres of optic fibre, in the process connecting 28 districts to the internet and Likoma through a microwave link.

“Until now, we have also connected 700-plus government institutions to the internet, on top of 32 markets , hospitals, schools and libraries, which are offering free Wi-Fi, “he says.

Aside from that, other systems bordering on issues of justice are also being implemented.
