US-based Malawian businesswoman Chawezi “Cha Cha” Banda has pledged to build a modern waiting shelter at Lingadzi Police Station in Lilongwe.
The move, according to the donor, is aimed at improving safety and accessibility for visitors.

Among others, Banda has indicated that the shelter would provide a secure space for visitors, especially during harsh weather conditions.
“The waiting shelter will be a vital facility for those seeking assistance at the station. It ensures they have a designated area to wait with dignity and safety,” she said.
Meanwhile, Senior Superintendent Israel Kwalira has expressed gratitude towards the move saying it will reach out to a high number of people the station serves on a daily basis.
“It will go a long way in improving the experience for those who come here. I encourage others to follow the example set by Cha Cha.”
He indicated that due to the station’s busy schedule, visitors are expected to have a conducive place to wait for their turn to be served.
In a statement MIJ Online has seen, construction works, whose groundbreaking ceremony was done on April 17th, 2025, are underway.
