Mzomera acquitted, Ngosi jailed in CDF case

The senior resident magistrates court in Mzuzu has acquitted Christopher Mzomera Ngwira on charges he was answering in connection to abuse of office and mismanagement of public funds.

The court has however, sentenced Daniel Nkosi to four years in prison for similar crimes.

The two were answering charges bordering on abuse of public funds meant for the construction of Chankhalamu Primary School, Luweya Bridge and a police unit at Mzalangwe in Mzimba district between 2014 and 2019 when Ngwira was member of parliament for Mzimba Hora constituency.

Passing his judgement, Senior Resident Magistrate Godfrey Nyirenda acquitted Ngwira on grounds that the state had failed to connect him to the crimes.

Meanwhile, Christon Ghambi lawyer for the accused has vowed to appeal Nkosi’s conviction.
