Kabaza demos in Lilongwe stopped

The Lilongwe City Council has asked Kabaza motorcycle taxi operators to cancel their planned demonstration scheduled for tomorrow to allow more time for consultations with relevant stakeholders.

The protest was in response to alleged harassment by individuals said to be linked to the Malawi Congress Party (MCP), who are reportedly forcing Kabaza operators to pay money.

In a statement signed by Lilongwe District Commissioner Lawford Palani, it was announced that MCP’s National Youth Director, Baba Steve Malondela, has arranged a meeting with Kabaza business operators on Friday at Lilongwe Community Ground, where all concerns will be addressed.

Meanwhile, Moses Mwalabu, National Chairperson for the Kabaza Motorcycle Taxi Operators, welcomed the move and expressed optimism for a positive resolution.
