The Institute of People Management Malawi (IPMM) celebrated its 40th anniversary in grand style on Friday in Blantyre with an affirmation of continuing to contribute to national economic growth.

The theme for the celebration was ‘40 Years of Driving Employee Performance, HR Best Practice and Work Ethics’.

The celebrations began with a commemorative march from Old Town Hall to Upper Stadium, featuring pavilions and activities.

Addressing the gathering, Minister of Labour Agnes NyaLonje lauded IPMM for its unwavering dedication to improving HR practices in Malawi.

“IPMM’s efforts have significantly contributed to the development of a competent and ethical workforce, which is vital for our nation’s growth,” she said.

IPMM President Goodwin Ng’oma said the institute was founded to enhance professionalism among HR management practitioners.

“We have continuously strived to set high standards in HR practices, ensuring that our members are equipped with the knowledge and skills to drive employee performance and uphold work ethics,” Ng’oma said.

The celebration continued into the evening with a dinner and dance gala at Mount Soche Hotel, where NBS Bank Chief Executive Officer Kwanele Ngwenya was the guest of honour.

In his address, Ngwenya commended IPMM for shaping the future of a prosperous nation and contributing towards achieving the 2026 blueprint.

“IPMM has been instrumental in driving the standards of human resource management in our country. As we look towards the future, the role of HR professionals will be even more critical in ensuring we achieve our 2026 blueprint,” Ngwenya said.

Human Resource Manager at Protea Hotels by Marriott Blantyre Ryalls Beatrice Mangulenje spoke on the significance of the event for HR professionals.

“Events like these bring us together, allowing us to network, share knowledge, experiences, and strategies that can help us all improve in our respective roles,” she said.

PMM was established in 1984 to advance the human resource profession in Malawi. Over the years, it has grown to become a pivotal organisation, providing training, certification, and networking opportunities for HR practitioners across the country.
