Two men, identified as Vincent Chotokoma and Steven Lizzi, have died in Blantyre after consuming alcohol on an empty stomach.
According to Aaron Chilala Soche police spokesperson, Chotokoma, a shoe vendor, was found dead at his home after drinking without eating for two days.
In a statement, Chilala said Lizzi, after a quarrel with his relatives, drank alcohol in protest without food and was found dead by the road to his house.
Chilala has said that postmortem results indicated both deaths were due to hypoglycemia caused by drinking alcohol on an empty stomach.
Chotokoma was from Njowe village, Blantyre District while Lizzi hailed from Chisinga village, Kasungu District.
Meanwhile, Soche Police has urged the public to drink responsibly and avoid alcohol consumption on an empty stomach to prevent similar incidents.
