Illovo Sugar Malawi plc has handed over to the Ministry of Education K420 million worth classroom blocks and staff houses it has built in Nkhotakota.
Illovo Sugar Malawi plc Managing Director Lekani Katandula said the company believes that education is the foundation for national growth and development.
He assured the ministry that the company would continue assisting the government in providing a conducive learning environment.
“We are committed to ensuring that necessary infrastructures are available across the area we operate. This is why we committed millions of Kwacha towards building infrastructure such as Chikwawa District Hospital, Namwera Police Unit in Chikwawa and upgrading of the road connecting the trading centre and Lakeshore Cane Growers Association in Dwangwa”, said Katandula
Minister of Education Madalitso Kambauwa Wirima said the support is timely.
She then challenged stakeholders and partners to complement the government’s efforts of ensuring increased access to education through such developments.
District Commissioner for Nkhotakota Ben Matengeni Tonho thanked Illovo and the government for supporting Nkhotakota District Council.
Senior Chief Kanyenda described the support as timely and has since asked other companies to emulate the same in his area.
