Accountants and other professionals are geared to dissect challenges stifling the growth of Malawi’s economy and possible remedies at this year’s Institute of Chartered Accountants in Malawi (Icam) Lakeshore Conference.
The indaba will be held in Mangochi mid next month and Minister of Finance Simplex Chithyola Banda is expected to deliver a keynote address.
Speaking in an interview, Icam Chief Executive Officer Noel Zigowa said the conference would create a platform for discussion on strategies on navigating the economic challenges Malawi has been facing and systematic ways of navigating through.
It will be held under the theme ‘Navigating Economic Uncertainties: Strategies for Growth and Resilience’.
According to Zigowa, out of the meeting, a list of holistic recommendations will be drawn towards economic recovery.
“As an economy, we are going through challenges. But we understand that amid those challenges, there are also opportunities.
“As an economy, within the economic uncertainties, we have to discuss solutions so that; as an economy, we can be resilient enough. So we have to build a backbone. We are looking at discussing more on the theme,” he said.
Zigowa said conferences of similar nature have, over the years, yielded results.
He said the sessions have also promoted entrepreneurial spirit among professionals.
“We are seeing a lot of impact. Things are happening and this time around, when we are looking at navigating economic challenges, we are seeing that, as we are building the backbone of the economy, we have to find correct remedies to the real issues affecting our economy,” Zigowa said.
Last week, AMG Global, an accounting and business advisory firm, pumped K5 million into the Icam conference.
AMG Global Business Development Manager Limbani Msosa said the conference was ideal for economic growth, hence the support.
