Govt commits to improving access to energy

Goverment has hailed the Global Energy Alliance for People and Planet (GEAPP) project which has helped in achieving universal energy access in the country.

The ending two-year GEAPP’s support has been instrumental in driving inclusive and sustainable development, advancing renewable energy solutions and improving energy access in underserved communities.

Speaking to MIJ Online Dr Janet Banda Deputy Secretary to the President and Cabinet & Head of the Presidential Delivery Unit said that the project’s success aligns with President Lazarus Chakwera’s transformation agenda through the ATM Strategy.

Matola: These investments are important.

According to Banda, about 1.6 billion kwacha GEAPP grant has enabled the Presidential Delivery Unit (PDU) to monitor energy projects, convene stakeholders and tackle bottlenecks in the energy sector which is key to achieve vision 2063.

Concurring with Banda is Ibrahim Matola Minister of Energy who added by saying that the project has played a crucial role in promoting smart agriculture with enough energy which has highly supported cooperatives and many farmers to start producing huge yields.

And on his part Dr Collen Zalengera Country Manager for Global Energy Alliance for People and Planet (GEAPP) has described the project as a success and promised to continue working with the government on other equally important projects that will bring positive impacts on people.
