Civil Servants Sacco commits to national development

The United Civil Servants SACCO has expressed its continued commitment towards uplifting the social and economic well-being of people in the country.

The commitment was expressed today during a half day-long engagement organized in the commercial city of Blantyre for media practitioners drawn from southern region-based media houses.

During the engagement, awareness was raised to the media practitioners about their personal financial insights that can change their lives and that of the general public.

Waliwa: We are making headways.

In an interview with MIJ Online, Francis Waliwa, the United Civil Servants SACCO’s Chief Executive Officer, disclosed that the Malawi Union of Savings and Cooperatives (MUSCCO) affiliate has, since its inception in 1992, uplifted the social and economic well-being of Malawians through provision of valuable savings platforms, financial literacy training, and affordable loan products.

This far, Waliwa further disclosed that the United Civil Servants SACCO, which is currently the largest Savings and Credit Cooperative Society in Malawi – with an asset base of K34 billion – has managed to transform the lives of 70, 000 Malawians, from just 6000 members some 6 years ago.

“We have a mission to change the lives of Malawians through financial wellness. And as the United Civil Servants SACCO, we intend to reach out to 130,000 members, from the 70, 000 we have today by the year 2026.

“When we do that, we will be able to acquire a lot of savings, and the assets would be hovering around K100 billion. That is going to help us to give out loans that would actually change people’s lives. We will also give out financial literacy to everyone using different platforms,” said Waliwa.

The United Civil Servants SACCO is a member-owned institution that offers a range of savings and credit products to civil servants, parastatals, and private organizations in Malawi.

It now operates 21 branches and 8 satellite offices across the country.
