Chinese envoy presents letters of credence

China’s new Ambassador to Malawi Lu Xu has affirmed her country’s commitment to strengthen trade and development relations with Malawi.

Lu made the remarks at the State House in Lilongwe Tuesday after presenting her letters of credence to President Lazarus Chakwera.

She said China would continue to foster bilateral ties by encouraging mutual visits and providing various forms of assistance to Malawi.

“We want to continue the exchange visits that [people from] both countries have been enjoying because they enhance cultural exchange,” Lu said.

She further expressed her country’s commitment to facilitate the proliferation of trading activities.

“I will work hard to encourage Chinese enterprises to establish businesses and invest in Malawi. Additionally, I will strive to implement the agreements signed by President Xi Jinping during the business summit,” Lu said.

Minister of Foreign Affairs Nancy Tembo expressed confidence in Lu’s ability to enhance the relationship between the two countries.

“We have had diplomatic relations with China for many years.

“Over the years, we have seen significant developments, including exchange visits, humanitarian aid and infrastructure projects. We will continue to strengthen this relationship,” Tembo said.

China and Malawi officially established diplomatic relations on December 28 2007, according to the Chinese Foreign Ministry in Beijing.
