Chikwawa crime rate down 8%

By Emmanuel Chilemba:

Chikwawa Police Station Officer-in- Charge Carolyn Jere has disclosed that the Shire Valley district has registered a decline in terms of cases of crime.

“We have registered 1,733 crime-related cases between January and November this year. Last year, we registered 1,877 crime-related cases. This represents an 8 percent decrease.

“This is a milestone,” she said on the sidelines of a Station Executive Committee meeting.

She cited police patrols, enforcement of road traffic rules and community engagement among factors that contributed to the development.

One of the district’s residents, Simeon Nkhabe, said there was a need for police officers and community members to continue working together.

“This can be done by ensuring that community members who are members of community policing groups are given the necessary tools, notably reflector jackets and torches,” he said.
