The Tobacco Association of Malawi -TAMA Trust says tobacco growers need to have patience despite some bales being bought at low prices during the opening of 2024/25 Tobacco marketing season.
The remark comes after concerns raised by some tobacco farmers over the low buying starting price of tobacco at the Kanengo Auction Floors
During the opening of the Kanengo Auction floors, most tobacco bales were bought at around $1 per kilogram while a few bales were bought at $3.20 per kilogram.
In an interview with MIJ Online, Abel Kalima Banda, president of TAMA, said that the buying price depends on the quality of tobacco grades and good quality tobacco is still in the sheds.
