In a move that is set to revolutionize the mobile phone industry in Malawi, Human Mobile Devices (HMD), makers of Nokia smartphones and feature phones, have announced their official entry into the country’s market.
Partnering with New Look as their official distributor, HMD is poised to bring back the nostalgic Nokia brand to the country.
In an interview with MIJ Online, Usman Shahid, Head of Sales Operations for MENA at HMD Global, revealed that the company is willing to open a manufacturing plant in Malawi if government policies permit.
Shahid added by expressing their commitment to working closely with the government to understand how policies can support the establishment of a manufacturing plant, similar to the one they have in Kenya.
This move is expected to create jobs, stimulate economic growth, provide Malawians with access to high-quality and affordable mobile devices.
Shahid also assured that HMD will support all marketing activities to boost sales for dealers who will be ordering the phones for retail business.
He further indicated that the new Nokia phones come with classic features such as repairability and long-life batteries that can even last up to three days.
