By Pempho Nkhoma:
State Vice President Michael Usi has assured Chirimba residents of the government’s support, saying it is committed to ensuring their socio-economic turnaround.
He said this Thursday, when he visited Maela, Namatete areas and Chirimba Zambezi ground.
Usi said he wanted to assess residents’ living conditions, hence his visit to the areas.
“I visited some households to know how they are living but because of time I was told to meet them at one place,” he said.
Some of the community members wanted to know about maize availability, to which the Vice President said Agricultural Development and Marketing Corporation (Admarc) depots would be opening soon.
“Admarc depots will be reopened and I will make sure that maize is available,” Usi said.
He also said as one way of addressing the problem of food shortage which some residents were facing, he would provide relief items immediately.
“Tomorrow [Friday], I will send maize flour and fish to those of you who are affected by hunger. We should be sharing the little that we have,” Usi said.
He also said the administration of President Lazarus Chakwera was committed to improving people’s wellbeing, citing the provision of loans through the National Economic Empowerment Fund (Neef).
“Other areas have started receiving loans. I will meet with Neef officials tomorrow [Friday] and I will give you updates,” he said, referring to the ward councillor for the area.
On his part, Councillor for Michiru Ward, Uche Yesaya, urged the government to fast-track the reopening of Maela Admarc depot, saying it was helping people in the area.
“People cannot afford to buy maize from vendors because the price is exorbitant,” Yesaya said.— Mana
