Bravehearts emerged champions of the Basketball Association of Malawi’s (BASMAL) National Basketball 2025 tournament, winning both the men’s and women’s categories.
The tournament, sponsored by CDH Investment Bank (CDHIB), was held at the Kamuzu University of Health Sciences Sports Complex and Blantyre Youth Centre.

CDHIB invested K44 million into the event, exceeding their initial commitment.
The bank’s CEO, Thoko Mkavea, emphasized the importance of sports in uniting people, building discipline, and unlocking potential.
“We are glad that all B-ball players gave their best to the game. There are lots of physical advantages one can get from playing basketball, from physical wellness to mental and cardiovascular health. For the winners, it’s time to celebrate! For those that failed to make it, it’s time to celebrate the small achievements and strategize as the tournament provides an opportunity to participate, learn and grow,” said Mkavea.
He added: “By backing this tournament, we aim to promote values like discipline, perseverance, and collaboration—qualities that sports teach and that are also essential for personal and economic development. It’s about strengthening community bonds and nurturing the next generation of leaders. Additionally, we trust our support will showcase the amazing basketball talent Malawi has which may elevate the game locally and Malawi on the international scene. CDH Investment Bank is a trusted financial partner that can create value for you, your family, your association and your businesses to reach their full potential. The same way we are helping BASMAL to grow, and helping basketball grow,”
BASMAL Secretary General Peter Gomani expressed gratitude to CDHIB for their support, highlighting the tournament’s success in uniting talent from across Malawi and showcasing the sport’s growth.
“CDH Investment Bank’s partnership reflects their commitment to empowering communities and promoting healthy lifestyles. Sports, especially basketball, are powerful tools to bring people together, inspire young talent, and foster teamwork. Sponsoring this championship aligns with our commitment to investing in the future of our nation and encouraging active, engaged communities,” said Gomani.
