Social and Political expert Chimwemwe Tsitsi has commended the family of the late Saulosi Chilima for refusing calls for Mary Chilima to take up leadership positions in government and the UTM party.
Tsitsi described the calls as “insensitive and inconsiderate”, stressing that joining politics is a personal choice.
Meanwhile, Tsitsi has warned that handing over party leadership to a relative or spouse would be inappropriate and create a bad precedent.
Speaking to MIJ Online, Tsitsi also distinguished between memorial services and political interest, noting that attending services does not necessarily translate to support for a political party leading the services.
